POLITICS!

Hey, this is an essay I wrote for my History class. The assignment was to write an essay about anything having to do with the election or the election process. So, instead of writing about which candidate I wanted for president like everyone else, I wrote this:
(Read it, it's actually pretty funny.)

“Is Barack Obama the 'Anti-Christ'?”...“2 years in solitary...is McCain insane?” No, the citizens of America are. Many people report on statements the candidates make that could upset voters. But you would be shocked at the lengths some people go to shoot down John McCain or Barack Obama, our two candidates in this year's general election. When something bad is said about one campaign, it starts a worse rumor about it's opponent. Crazy claims are made, crimes are committed. How far will they go?
Bridget McCain is John McCain's adopted Bangladeshi daughter. Or is she? A rumor went about that Bridget is really his illegitimate biological daughter, and that he had an affair with a black woman. It is also said that George Bush started this rumor during the 2000 Primary Election in which they were competing. On www.johnmccainrumors.com, there were quite a few other interesting rumors, such as that McCain was in the Ku Klux Klan when he was seventeen, and that he had an affair with his abstinence counselor. From what I've read, don't conservatives believe highly in abstinence? Either way, those rumors are ridiculous.
Let's get this straight: Barack Obama is not the “Anti-Christ”, though people have been cataloging his similarities to the biblical man for two years now. Supposedly he refuses to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, too. I wonder who thought of that one! There are very many fierce rumors about Obama that I would prefer not to get into, so I can see why he made
www.fightthesmears.com. This is a website dedicated to confirming that the smears and rumors floating around are false. You can search any smear, and it should come up with a paragraph that states that it's untrue. About the above Pledge of Allegiance statement, the site says:
“Barack Obama’s grandfather, a WWII veteran, taught Barack the Pledge of Allegiance when he was a little boy and helped inspire his love for America. But that hasn’t stopped smear pushers from claiming he’s not a patriot.”
Way to share the truth, Obama!
One act of insanity showed up in the news recently. Ashley Todd, McCain supporter, came to the police with the story that she had been attacked and mugged by a black man. She also claimed that, because she had a McCain/Palin bumper sticker, the mugger drew a knife and carved a “B” (for Barack) into her cheek. For a while the McCain supporters pointed the finger at Obama, talking about the recklessness of his supporters. The only problem: the “B” was backwards! It turned out that Ms. Todd had done it herself. Not only did she cut a letter into her face, she gave herself a black eye and criminal charges. The finger pointed right back to the McCain supporters. Psychopath.
Now, Ms. Todd and all the people who publish those crazy claims against the candidates are not the average citizens. They are extremely biased and let their imaginations take control of their common sense and knowledge of the facts. Most people don't feel that strong about their choice of candidates. Most of the time an entire group of Americans - Democrats or Republicans - will get some of the blame for things others say. But these people feel so strongly about their topic that they feel the need to lash cruel comments and accusations at our two politicians. Would you believe any of it? Would you ever say something like that? What's the truth, and what isn't - it's all part of politics.

UPDATE COMING-on what my grade will be. ;)

P.S. VOTE YES ON THREE!

Wow. I hadn't even heard those rumors. I think the one about McCain being in the Ku Klux Klan and the one about Obama being the anti-Christ are the most ridiculous. Barack Obama is a Christian, for Heaven's sake, and John McCain being in the KKK--I bet they made that up because Obama is African-American!

Wow...cool! How did you get those rumors. I only know the "conservative", "socialist", and the regular ones for Obama on the news.

By the way, tomorrow is election day!

Thanks! And seriously, the whole politics rumor thing is just like jr. high/high school on a larger scale, (with less people going home crying.) ;)
